July 1998 -- Our lucky new member, John, had his weekend wish granted
with a stay at the fabulous new Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.
John
& a friend spent a lazy weekend enjoying the ambience & style of
Australia's newest casino, The Crown.
In
John's words:
"We
arrived a little late on Friday night & everything was laid on -
complimentary champagne, room done up with flowers & a gift box of $820
(Australian) casino chips.
We
had a wander around the casino that night but were tired so we went to bed.
Next
morning, a room service continental brekky & a slow wake up, followed by a
sauna & shower.
I
went down to the gaming floor & spent an hour or so watching the action.
They are single zero wheels (of course) but I guess it's all too new to be
showing any mechanical bias yet. Of course, I placed a few 'fun' bets.
Lunch
in the restaurant with Alison was superb. Consisting of veal steak for me,
chicken parma for Alison. After eating, we went to get some fresh air &
walk off some of the lunch. It was pouring with rain outside so we went back
to the tables. I broke even while Alison enjoyed herself with some luck on the
pokies.
We
went for dinner & a show, then back to the tables. Jason was there &
introduced us to some of the guys I'd read about in the Roulette Winners Club
newsletter.
They
seemed very relaxed & were enjoying themselves. There were one or two nice
wins, but everybody was being cautious. Jason said it was because they hadn't
seen any big player advantage to exploit as yet.
My
complementary casino chips ran out so I had to buy some more playing chips.
We played 'till nearly 2:00 AM & I'd made a little headway but couldn't
concentrate so we crawled off to bed.
Sunday
morning, another room service brekky & we spent the whole morning ('till
11:30 AM) in bed. I had another sauna & shower & met Jason coming back
from the pool. He said he'd been doing the numbers from last night & it
wasn't showing the standard 2.5% house advantage so there must be an exploit
somewhere. He had to fly back, but suggested a few things I might try.
I
tried what he recommended & made some moderate gains. A new dealer arrived
& as I'd already exceeded my target I thought it was time to cool off
& get my gear packed so I'd be ready to go but we had to get the 'plane so
I didn't have time to expand on Jason's advice.
The
rain hadn't stopped all weekend but we really had a great time & we came
out ahead!"
It
was great to speak to John & Alison on Monday night. I wish he had kept
some notes on his progress so I could see what happened on Sunday afternoon
& I wish he hadn't emptied the mini-bar < wink >.
